  1. Yes, by appointing John Roberts to be worldwide conservation director it does create marketing value to hotel guest. This appointment is one of the CSR activities which will help position Anantara hotel as a hotel that contributing benefit to the society and become an environmental friendly hotel. This will not only create value to the hotel since Robert’s new role will also include developing projects with Anantara properties in order to minimize environmental damage to help develop new Anantara properties. Robert’s recommendation will also provide best sustainable practices and assist with Green Global certification. By receiving this certification it will assure the hotel guest and the distributor who are a part of Anantara’s stakeholders that Anantara is a hotel that emphasizing on CSR. For the guest by staying at the hotel that is emphasizing on CSR, they will do feel better staying at Anantara hotels since by staying at Anantara Hotels the hotel guests feel like they are contributing something to the society by supporting the hotel’s activities such as rescuing the elephant and help with the unemployment problem.

  2. Marketing value is the highest estimated price that both parties of buyer and seller accept in a open market. In my point of view, John Reoverts has definitely created the market value for Anantara's Golden Triangle Asian Elephant foundation (GTAEF) because so far they already have supported more than 25 elephant and 60 people with customers friendly money and sponsors. Furthermore, with John reovert's two different roles, it allows him to minimize the damage to the environment while maximize the possibility of receiving Green Globe certification. This certificate do means a lot to John Reoverts because it actually proves that the hotel is environmental friendly, because the customers would recognizes that the money they pay are not fully business use. On the other hand, they are actually helping the environment indirectly by allowing the hotel to have more financial ability to take care of both current and the new elephant, and also the mahouts.

  3. Appointing John Roberts to this position do create marketing value to hotel guests. When consumers are choosing goods and services, most of them would consider products that would make them look good in a sense. For example, being able to use some sort of a product that funds a foundation or a service that would provide CSR back to the society is like the consumers are indirectly helping the society as well. This concept may be easily seen on generation Ys. This is due to the trend GenY’s have where they would consider cooperation that provides CSR programs that would do something good back to the society. Besides the point of GenY’s, I would like to apply this concept onto the hotel guests. Hotel guests there would also be indirectly helping the society, which creates the sense of satisfaction from consumers while using the services. In terms of the distributor’s point of view, I would say that distributors would also feel the same. Despite the goal of each firm is to maximize it’s owner’s equity, but being able to contribute back to the society would also be one of goals or at least a good deed one would like to do. Thus, I would say that, appointing John Roberts to this position would create value to the guests there. On top of that, knowing John Roberts background would create a reliable sense in his position as well.

I do not really think appointing this position has a marketing value to the hotel guests, but, in my opinion, i would rather say that it is likely to be about the reinforcement of the organization's image or CSR. I think that the reason why Anantara decided to appoint this new position because they concern on the company's image than the hotel guests. Elephants or a mahout village is just a service or a sort entertainment for guests. What they really want is the acceptance from the the international level that they are a company who contribute something back to the society via using Elephant, which is good in a way. Similarly, with his new role, it is still concern about the benefits of the organization or the hotel itself not the customers or the guests. It stated that Roberts will use his skills to minimize environmental damages to help develop new Anantara properties. Obviously, hotel properties are going to be developed for the business purposes.

  5. Marketing is involved with the creating value of the product and service to respond the customer preference and need. In this case, John Robert is obviously creating market value to hotel guest who use the service of Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort. When consumers decide to buy some product or service, some of them may concern about environmental friendly product. John Robert action and the hotel action itself are concerned about corporate social responsibility or (CSR) because we can see that this place main purpose provides comfortable life to more than 25 elephants and mahout family. They want to perform the responsibility to the society. I believe that their CSR program is the market value action that can be seen at this Anantara Resort and spa. The reason is that the consumer might feel comfortable to use service here and help the environment and those elephant from their money. For Robert new role with the guarantee of assist with Green Globe certification, it states that Robert work with scientist to conserve environment and minimize the environmental damage to help improve the property, so this can be one of their marketing management to make their hotel looks more confortable to spend a night.

  6. In my opinion, appointing John Roberts has a marketing value. Though what the company has done is more like creating a good image for them and showing that they are socially responsible than focusing directly to the customers, there’s an influenced on marketing value and I think it helps increases it. With what they have been doing in the past, it’s already good. However, by appointing John Robert to the new position, they have bring it up to another level and this will opened them to the new opportunities and become more widely known. When the company has good images it will help increase its marketing value to customers especially in terms of emotional and psychological value in this case. The possibility that customers will have good perception on the company will be higher, the company will get on customers good’s side and be liked by them, and as a result customers will be willing to pay more for the company’s service or product.

  7. From what I have read I don’t think by appointing Robert has a marketing value to the “hotel guest” but rather more to the hotel “itself”. What I see here is a hotel trying to engage in corporate social responsibility to boost up their company image so that environmental friendly conscious customers would choose them over other hotel. Every company has the obligation to do CSR and this CSR is no different than what any other company does. Elephants, as the main target for his campaign, although well taken care, they are also used primarily as a mean to entertain guests. Street rescues can be really helpful for both elephants and the owners, but still, the movement does not really create marketing value for hotel guests. The article then states that he will continue to use his skills, scientific and local collaboration to minimize environmental damage and promote overall ‘green’ well-being, specifically, when Anantara properties become involved, which, subtly suggests the primary concern for company’s profit.

Appointment of this position has a marketing value to hotel guests in my opinion because it does not just creat the feeling of conservation to the society but it does create the feeling of warm to guests and customers visiting Anantara's place. In other words, this appoinment promotes such CSR and contribute positive brand image to hotel business. Customers themselves would feel related and involved to animal and trees bacuase they would have to spend seveal days to live in environment of warm and touch to "green".

    Moreover, unlike to other brands using company owners, such as Ichitun using K.Tun, as a brand ambassador to touch hearth of target audience directly and powerfully, Anatara uses brand itself to promote such way. Anantara uses the place and the environment rather than owners to contribute the feeling of hope that guests would choose this place in order that they would feel they can contribute somethig back to society.

  9. In my, point of view, appointment John Roberts has a market value. The reason is because hotel will get the good image of being a social responsible and CSR. The hotel not only takes care for the elephants but also support mahout family too. In this point, hotel will look good for two perspectives, first is about the conservative aspect that they care elephants while a lot of Thai ignore elephants which are the symbol of Thailand. In the second perspective, hotel also support the mahout family so this point emphasize that hotel sees the important of the value of the family. In addition, Anatara is the first hotel who does this program so it will gain a lot of attention for both Thai and foreigners. And this is so perfect image for the customers who are looking for the nice hotel that concern about the social.

According to this article, the appointment of John Roberts will create a market value to the hotel guests because with his plan and his position would make customers feel good when they make a purchase at Anantara. Now,I can see a lot of green marketing such as Double A which can promote the CSR to customers. With this strategy, it makes customers would rather to come to our company than the others because they know that part of their purchase will come to the charity. Therefore, this CSR plan can create the positive brand image among customers. While they are having a good reputation, they also save the environment which can make the resort and spa that he owns look more green. Moreover, I want to say that he is picking the right issue for this strategy because in Thailand, we can see a lot of elephants and mahouts along the road and asking for money, and we can see that those elephants are hurt.   13. Since Anantara is not only the hotel, but it is Resort and Spa; obviously, it is not only a place for stay and relax, but it is a natural or friendly-environmental place since it is relevant with the term of spa.

    And so, the idea of appointing John Roberts to be in the position can help the hotel to create more marketing value even he is not working in the marketing field, but it indirectly helps the hotel anyway in term of promoting Hotel’s image in aspect of save the world.

    As John is expert in elephant and environmental issue, this helps the hotel’s image leads to more positive way, according to today’s world, the world is getting worse and worse because of humans & manmade, so people today tend to be more environmental conscious, they are more concerned about environment, including greens and animals, by this way John helps create value to the market since he can conserve the environment.

This action clearly illustrate the corporate culture, value and strategic development of Anantara Hotels.

    As consumers in the tourism industry more and more concerned about their impact to the world during their holiday, through media and higher education level, Anantara Hotels is building it's sustainable competitive advantage by appointing this position as this position includes minimizing environmental damage as well. The benefit in which the hotel guests would receive higher than the existed service that Anantara hotels offer would be the psychological, emotional and social benefit, depending on the degree of involvement of the guest during their stay at Anantara property while their costs of obtaining such value remain unchanged/slightly changed (where the cost would be offset by the benefit). This would make the total net value received by guests increase.

    Due to this demand in the market and the change in consumption pattern, this would have impact on the distributors of Anatara Hotels. In the distributors point of view, Anatara Hotels would have a unique selling point that are above other 5 stars resorts and spas. As John Robert's reputation and background will create positive feeling to Anantara's image. As today society, people has concerned more on environment, they trend to think more on green concept. Hence, when people want to consume on something they will concern about environmental friendly either. Especially in this case that Anantara's services are involve with elephant that is very sensitive for people to thing about harming animal's nature.     Since in the hotel industry has adopt CSR into practice more seriously and more guests are more aware of environment and global friendly issues. It is the hotel task to put themselves into the position that it is more caring and consciously operate its hotel with regards of environment, heritages and harmless to earth. By appointing John Roberts, worldwide conservation director to be in charge of Anantara Golden Triangle’s Elephant Camp that provide living for more than 60 mahouts and 25 elephants in its tradition mahout village.   24. John Reoverts is playing a very big role of responsibility towards Anantara area and due to his actions and planning; this incentivizes people to see more value towards his marketing planning. Even though some might see this as some sort of staged opera just to draw people’s empathy and creating good image for the Hotel, this issue is ambiguous and will be controversial if viewed in this way because 25 elephants and 60 mahouts are just the numbers which doesn’t really express the well-being of any of them. But in any case, I would stood from utilitarianism point of view since John is at least doing something compare to other entrepreneurs which could somehow gain him his Green certification and reach more help towards more elephants and mahouts regardless of his intention.

Customers may percieve that this hotel do something good to society and would like to support the hotel. There is no possibilities to know that the hotel doing this to create marketing value by intention or not,but customers tend to believe that it better to support the firm that do nothing to society.
