Do you think the endorsement of the pope to the HOG in Italy have an impact on HOG's strength? What other markets would be influenced by his blessing?

  1. In my opinion, I think it's a good idea but bad planning and response during and after the HOG event. It was suppose to be an event that would definitely strength the image by having riders that rides through 40km to show the spirits and strength the image. But since there are people getting hurt and causing traffic in public. This would only hurts the host even more, according from human physiology, when things go well, no one would really make a voice or passing the good efforts on. On the other hand, when things go wrong, everything would complain and spread out the words so fast that u wouldn't even recognise it. By the time you realised, its already causing a serious marketing failure that bring u harm instead of positive image that you were trying to build through out this event.

  2. it is considered to be an average idea for the market to be influenced by the event that has taken place. this event symbolises the strength of the riders therefore, this could hurt the people on the road as well as the other riders. this will cause a market failure because when the word spreads out about the problems that occur, this would ruin the market image. this could ruin the brand image in the minds of the consumers.

This is a very new idea for marketing and it does have an impact on the company's strength, however, in a bad way.This is a fail attempt and brougth about many complains which give a company a bad publicity.By having the pope come out and give blessing to these people while it is obvious to others that this is for marketing together with the commotions that these people cause, it angered the people living in the area and might affect on tourism because others who have heard of the news might not want to visit the place anymore. The only good thing out of this was publicity and the fact that people have heard something from the company, but then it's in a negative way.

I think the endorsement of the pope to the HOG in Italy generates a negative impact on HOG's strength as HOG is known to associate themselves with adventure, passion and the experience of the open road, especially to those that listen to Pope Francis's homily on that day as he cautioned that power and pleasure would ultimately bring new forms of slavery and death. The effect would highly be on those who are influenced by the Pope, population of Christianity. However, for those that only see the news on Francis's exceptance of the Harley-Davidson motorcycles and a leather jacket from the motor company, they might interpret this as the Pope is supporting HOG, but would only be briefly. The other markets that would be influenced by his blessing would be all things representing the schema of riders of Harley-Davidson such as leather jackets, boots, tattoos, and even alcohol industry.

  5. The strength of the pope towards the HOG event would probably being the popularity however, it does not really have an impact on HOG’s strength. First of all HOG is more of a company that has a positive power image where it could be expressed through its products. However, because of the accidents and negative publicity that the event has, people would probably forget about the pope’s blessing and would focus on the negative events that have come along. The other markets that would be influenced by this blessings would be markets that are similar to the positive-power image. The main market that could be influenced could be the leather products are in rocker styles. The reason I gave markets such as leather products in rocker style because rocker style gives off that power image.

Although it is new marketing promotion, brand image of Harley-Davidson and Pope does not go together because it is interpreted in such way that pope support Harley-Davidson as well as it can cause the negative image to him. Also, it is a bad plan due to accidents that can be happened. This is because this publicity can bring harms to people commuting on that road.

However, pope might have the negative social judgement that give publicity to HOG. but for HOG, it become more good side because having pope blessing in front of lots of people, make other people have the positive feeling toward HOG but not pope. also, HOG representative give jacket and motorcycle to pope is look so weird.

  9. In my opinion, it is a very bad idea on this HOG event. Firstly, Pope is some kind of spiritual person that HOG should not use to endorse their brand, it 's croosing the line. As the image of HOG brand is not suite and synchonize with Pope. Moreover, this event cause injury that imply the sense of unprofessional and unplanned that it make the brand look bad.

  10. Personally, I don’t think that using pope as endorsement will have positive impacts to the brand. Though this phenomenon can create a buzz or talk of the town, this creates negative word of mouth rather than positive word of mouth. In facts, it contributes bad image to the brand because there was an accident and some riders go hurt, so this marketing is not meaningful and do not build any strengths to the brand. Thus, the brand should do other marketing ways to promote and draw attention to the brand not like this event because publicity can create a buzz for the brand in positive ways.

  11. This publicly is totally a wrong execution by Harley Davison. The brand personality is not going well with the Pope parade at all. The audiences of the parade is not the target market, therefore this is the waste coverage campaign from Harley Davison. People that is the audience of Pope parade would not appreciate the powerful performance of Harley bike engine. In the other hand, they will develop negative perspective toward the brand. The competitors of Harley Davison could use this mistakes to attack the brand image furthermore. At the same time, this will give Harley higher difficulty to attract the customer of rivals to switch to Harley bike. The issues about religion is very critical, Harley Davison would face an intense trouble to recover the brand image.

  12. I think the endorsement of the pope does have a negative impact on the HOG's strength. The pope's image and the HOG's image are totally in contrast. As the title of the news mentioned that Hell's angel, which mean that the image of the HOG rider is a rider wearing black boots, jackets and vests, the tattooed Harley-Davidson. By using the pope as an endorsement even though it is a very effective publicity but it contradicting to the brand image of Harley Davidson, this can negatively affect the brand image of Harley Davidson. Another negative impact by doing so is the citizen's perception toward the HOG as the HOG created troubles such as noise pollution and serious motorcycles accident.

    Other market that could be influenced by the pope blessing is the markets who are trying to create a group of loyalty customer such as the HOG. This will also be a negative influence since the pope mentioned that "power and pleasure", among other things, lead to God being "replaced by fleeting human idols which offer the intoxication of a flash of freedom, but in the end bring new forms of slavery and death.". This means that human should not be obsess with any brands since it will replace God, which could lead to slavery and death.

    Therefore this endorsement is a wrong choice that Harley Davidson made.

  13. Undoubtedly, HOG got on the news and the impact of their actions is surely spread on the papers, which is a way in promoting themselves, consider it had done successfully. But, the problem is the location and the subject they want to be related with HOG is not quite sure appropriate. Vatican is such a holy spiritual place for thousands of years and the person who thrones is the Pope. Starting from the sounds of the engines, the presents offer to the Pope till the accidents, I'm unable to see the positive sign of this marketing event and activity hold by HOG.

  14. In my opinion, it create negative impact to HOG strength because they have contrast image. Pope has a clean image, but riders have aggressive images. But yes, it can promote themselves because doing this there are a lot of people acknowledge about it or notice it, and it may also get into the broadcast such as Television and radio. But, if you think about the ethic, they should not do like this because it looks inappropriate because of the sound of exhausts are annoying and the line is very very long, and bikers also got accident which will make the image lower.

  15. In my opinion, HOB's idea of marketing is quite new for the marketing and of course it will create the good worth of mouth and also the impact of the company. Even though, it is the bad way to promote the company as well. By doing this activity that effect the religious i think when company want to do something new and the thing that related to the religious they have to think twice. By doing this Pop give blessing to people and this activity of HOB is not proper. In addition, it may create the accidents and it will effect the company later. And then this WOM will turn to the bad impact to the company instead of the good ones.

  16. Referring to the given article on pope endorsement to the HOG, i think it will have both negative and positive impact on the HOG's strength. The negative impact i am referring is the image of the brand that does not goes together with image of pope, in fact, it is very contradicting. Pope is considered as a saint, a leader of world wide catholic church. In contrast when we think of HOG we think of antihero and loudness. By using pope as an endorsement of HOG might anger some christian and noted that Christianity is the most largest religious group in the world, subtly we can imply that there are many people out there that might go against Harley for using pope as an endorsement and eventually hurt the brand reputation. However,despite of the negative impact, i think there is also a positive impact on the HOG's strength. Since the way Harley market their product by having pope francis blesses the Harley-Divison bikers, show a good sign to be bless by a saint which lead to a good brand image in such a way that this might encourage normal biker to join the Harley group.

  18. there are two both positive and negative to my opinion, in terms of positive, with pope as endorsers it will give brand awareness to new people that usually do not know about the HOG because to me HOG is quite niche market, so this will penetrate to new kind of people and also create with new brand images of the brand that not only bad guy can drive the Harley. however, in terms of the negative impact, most of the customer of HOG seem to make the brand become the strong and cool brand and masculine so with the pope it usually contrast to the current brand image and also blur the image of the brand as well.

  19. In my opinion this has a very negative effect. It may seem to the readers that it has a positive effect that will influence people to go join the company's community by buying Harley davidson's bikes. How can we even imagine the Pope, who is the highest person in tact in Rome, driving a Harley Davidson? Even the color (Black and White) are completely opposite. In my opinion, there must have been a very strong reason for them to make this decision and yes the only strength I see is the loyal fans of the Pope would feel better about the company's brand image. This decision will definitely encourage the tatoo industry, and other extreme industries that match Harley davidson's definitions.

  20. In my opinion, as the company was using the pope as the endorser is a bad idea because the image of the pope and the HOG is very different. It could create the doubt to the target customers and the other people. On the one hand, this event marketing could be the talk of the town, but it also affected the other people nearby such as the cause of accidents and noise. Therefore, both the endorser and the event marketing were not a good implement plan.

  21. Yes it is quite new and interesting for marketing activity to invite the pope; however, in my opinion, I think this idea does not suit with the brand Harley or HOG Company, it could provide disadvantages to the company rather than support.

    As the article stated that impact of endorse the pope which is people perceived that pope does not really help Harley's riders or some think his word is not sacred since those riders faced the accident. Therefore, I think it is not a good idea to endorse the pope as Harley is the cool bike, the brand can sell itself without hiring any endorsement since it is classic motorbike where the pope is the person who have a totally different characteristics with Harley's brand personality.

    Thus, since this result happened, marketing teams and company should find something to remove this circumstance. For example, they have to confront and apologize to the public. If they want to endorse, they should endorse people have same lifestyle with the brand such as having tattoo people, cowboy and etc since these people are relevant to the brand's image and character.

  22. Some people think that it is a good idea to influence people by using this endorsement by pope. In my opinion I think it is very bad idea because pope is the highest status in that country, which they should not use Pope to influence people to interest in he Harley Davidson bike. Moreover, pope and harley davidson brand image is contrast because the pope image is the prestige, but Harley davidson brand image is an strong and adventure.

    The company should come to apologize to the public, and they should find something to remove the bad image of the company.

  24. This contrast in image between Harley and the pope would only impact Harley's strength in a negative way. Harley's brand image are wild, rough and adventurous therefore, if Harley wants to promote the brand, it should just use endorser who has the same kind of image, not the pope who is a holy figure which is totally the opposite of Harley Davidson bikers. Also, brand reputation was harmed when people complained about the traffic, noise and also the accidents.

In my opinion, I believe that this event create negative impact to the brand image of HOG’ strength just only this event because pope who is representing the religious people and the leader of saint should not become the brand endorser of this brand. It is contradicting in itself about the theme of the brand. I know that HOG want to find something new which differentiates them from the other by creating this event but it would be better if they plan and implement it better. They might use another endorser who matches with the HOG ‘theme’. However, after this poor quality event which create accident and complain from citizens in the area, the brand image will not be destroyed because of strong image. Also, other market that would be influenced by the pope blessing are those shop who sell leather jacket product and motorcycle equipment.

  26. Endorsement of the Pope to the HOG in the way that the power of pope or the religion has combined with the power of lifestyle group like Harley Davidson Bikers. In the VDO footage it even emphasized at the logo of those bikers leather jacket and its brand with blessing. It might become a holy strength that those loyal bikers who perceived their brand as god blessed quality. However, not all bikers are extreme religious that would have that strong belief in god as their life style is bounded to Rock / Devil and many more symbols that associate with power, alcohol, lust, hardcore manhood.
    However, with this kind of endorsement that HOG used was not quite suitable and very clear that Pope would add more positive image to HOG as there could be lots of critics generate from such an event. There are always two or more sides to this situation, even though it got lots of critics on it, but it is another way that HOG brand and culture will be seen with huge audience in the public to illustrates its powerful brand and community. Therefore, its brand would not be easily destroy, but in reverse might be more well known to other people who interested in Christian and the public eyes who witness the event.

In the positive way, this marketing gives brand awareness of consumers and help to expand the segment market as now HOG target is considering as a niche market so with it help to penetrate market and also convey new image of brand to show that Harley also suit for normal men. However, on the negative side, with this new image will contrast with the old image with emphasize on masculine that make the brand image less stronger and consumer may confuse with the position and image that brand want to convey.

  28. The only reasons I could think of having Pope Francis on HOG is either to encourage Catholics population to ride HOG more or to have Pope pray for accident prevention. But either way, the creativity is there but the endorser choice is just a grass between the bricks. Apart from creating loud noises, this could also affect HOG’s advocates which are not Catholic, to how much attention they seek to pay to this exclusive group and lastly now it sounded like Vatican is supporting something delinquent and wild which are contradictory to their principal just because Pope was given two white HOGs.
